From June 15 to Sept. 30, 2011, Brock University will conduct a larviciding program under the authority of the Medical Officer of Health, Regional Municipality of Niagara, to control larval mosquitoes in order to prevent their development into vectors of West Nile virus.The larvicide Methoprene (ingot formulation, PCP No. 27694), under the federal Pest Control Products Act, will be applied by direct hand application into catch basins at Brock University-owned and leased properties within the Region of Niagara.The biological larvicide B.t.i. (granular formulation, PCP No. 26863) may be placed by direct hand application into selected bodies of surface water such as ditches and ponds, depending on the results of testing for the presence of mosquito larvae. Signs will be posted at surface water locations where B.t.i. is applied.
