Now, a couple of years later, the latter is staring down some quality upgrades for the 2020 model year.Land Rover on Tuesday unveiled the 2020 Discovery Sport. On the spectrum of refreshes, this one is right about in the middle, making some slight visual changes while also updating the more important underlying bits. Two new powertrains have been introduced: One is a 246-horsepower I4 from the modular Ingenium engine family, while the other one slaps a 48-volt mild hybrid system into the equation, boosting its output to 286 horsepower.That new mild hybrid system comes alongside a new underlying platform. Now riding on Land Rover’s Premium Transverse Architecture platform, not only does it allow the Discovery Sport to pick up this kind of electrification, it makes the body some 13 percent stiffer. It’s also quieter, thanks to some improved sound deadening measures.As for style, it’s a little different, but not too much. The front and rear bumpers are new, and to my eyes, a little sportier-lookin’ than before. The grille is different, but I didn’t notice that until I read it in the press release. There are also some new LED lights to further differentiate the refreshed Disco Sport from its forebear.Enlarge ImageIt might take a keen eye to find the differences, but on the whole, they make for a more premium-looking SUV. Land Rover Inside, the center console has been redesigned, eschewing the rotary dial in favor of the sticklike gear lever seen on other Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. This rejiggering also makes enough space for wireless device charging, a first for the Disco Sport. Six USB ports are scattered throughout, as well. A new rearview mirror can display what the rearview camera sees, while additional cameras beneath the front end allow off-roaders to see “through” the hood on the infotainment display.The interior is further gussied up with more premium materials, including a new optional non-leather seat material made from recycled polyester microfiber. You can even spec massaging seats, if you feel like really going for broke. Behind the first row, there are new cup holders and redesigned storage spaces, in addition to extra seat configurability, bringing the total number of available seat configurations to 24.On the infotainment front, the Discovery Sport now rocks Land Rover’s InControl Touch Pro system, with its 10-inch touchscreen replacing the outgoing setup. It’s not Touch Pro Duo, though — the climate controls aren’t relegated to their own screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, as is a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot. Safety systems are available, but not standard, and they include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist.The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport hits dealerships in the summer, and pricing will be announced closer to the car’s on-sale date.Originally posted May 21.Update, June 10: Reduced mild hybrid output by 10 horsepower due to an error in Land Rover’s press release. The broader 50-index National Stock Exhange (NSE) Nifty clocked about 400 points to close at 11,301 points.Indian rupee touched a new 2-month high on the back of strong foreign buying of both debt and equity. Market observers see renewed risk appetite in foreign institutional investors (FII), who have poured in about Rs 8,000 crores so far this month, according to a report in the MoneyControl website. FIIs sustained net inflows in February and January pumping in Rs 13,564 crores and Rs 127 crores respectively. Foreign portfolio investors (FPI) have also been supporting net inflows having brought in a net amount of Rs 11,182 crores last month.Market watchers are confident of a continued bull run this time unless there is a disastrous political turn as the rally has been broad based with strong movement in all sectors. The Nifty Bank index on Tuesday surpassed its all-time closing high of 28,320 hit on August 9, 2018, to hit a high of 28,363 in the intra-day trade, the Business Standard website said. The most active stocks on NSE were Reliance Industries (RIL), ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Titan Company and UPL hitting their high.The bullish turn is attributed in part to the market euphoria over polls that have predicted a return of the Bharatiya Janata Party under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The mid-and small-caps have been gaining traction among the investors after having bled for more than a year. The Asian shares have been upbeat after the European Commission’s nod for changes to a Brexit deal ahead of a vote in the British parliament. European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker agreed to additional assurances in an updated Brexit deal with British Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday, according to Reuters. The easing of trade war clouds between the US and China have also helped the global markets, reflecting the shine on Indian equities.

A number of vehicles were prevented from entering Dhaka for ‘security reasons’ on the day.Passengers and vehicles drivers complained that they had to face interminable traffic congestion due to the police checks along the way. Also, bus movement was closed at one stage on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in the Signboard area at the time.Earlier, BNP chairperson’s adviser Mizanur Rahman Minu talked to the media in a press conference at Rajshahi BNP’s office at noon on Thursday.“We got written permission for the rally on 12 conditions just 14 hours before the due date. Bus service was halted to hamper the gathering,” Minu told the media.Alleging that the police have been arresting BNP leaders and activists ahead of the rally, the adviser to the BNP chairperson said, “Police raided the houses of hundreds of BNP leaders and activists. Some over enthusiastic and ambitious police officers are creating obstacles before the rally in many ways.”In response to BNP’s allegations, Rajshahi metropolitan police spokesman Ifte Khair Alam said, the police were performing their regular duties and were not creating any obstacle. There was no incident of politically motivated arrests.Natore Bus Owners’ Association general secretary Sajidul Islam told Prothom Alo that they received a letter from the transport workers union saying a bus driver of Desh Travels was assaulted on Wednesday and they would close the bus service until legal action was taken.However, when the Prothom Alo correspondent contacted Desh Travels counter officials, they said that they did not know of any such incident of a driver being assaulted.Meanwhile, several bus drivers told Prothom Alo that they started out with passengers from Rangpur in the morning. After reaching Bogura, the owners and workers blocked their buses.A transport owner of Bogura said on condition of anonymity that police and Awami League-backed transport owners had restricted them to drive to Rajshahi.Bogura highway police denied such allegations.On the other hand, the convener of Rajshahi District Motor Workers Union Kamal Hossain said, the bus service was halted due to the dispute between the two Bus Owners’ Association of Rajshahi and Natore.

Researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center, along with researchers at five other cancers centers in the U.S., will take part in the partnership.The focus of The Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy in San Francisco are techniques that prod the body’s own immune system to attack cancer.One example is the breakthrough melanoma drug Yervoy. Dr. Jim Allison, now at MD Anderson, developed Yervoy after learning how to unleash the power of the immune cells called T-cells.Parker recognizes that immunotherapy is at a critical tipping point, and needs support to continue basic research that won’t turn a profit right away, Allison said. “Sean has a passion for immunotherapy and I think he sees it as really novel, and a whole different way of looking at things,” Allison said, speaking by phone from Los Angeles before the announcement ceremony.Immunotherapy research operated at the margins of cancer science for decades, but after the launch of Yervoy in 2011, followed by similar drugs, the field attracted immense attention and is now hailed for its innovations.“He respects that, he’s been sort of a disruptor himself over the years, with Napster and Facebook and stuff like that,” Allison said.Six cancer centers will participate in the partnership, sharing research money and also scientific results.“What we’ve learned at MD Anderson in the last couple of years is you really have to look inside the tumor and see what’s going on if you if you want to know why therapies are working and not working,” Allison said.Allison says researchers at MD Anderson are already doing that type of analysis, using a mass cytometry machine they purchased with money from the Parker Foundation. The half-million dollar instrument can analyze tumor tissue and identify 40 different characteristics, such as the presence or absence of certain proteins inside or outside a malignant cell.Allison will co-direct the Parker-backed efforts at MD Anderson, along with Dr. Padmanee Sharma, a specialist in genitourinary cancers and immunology research.“I think it’s wonderful,” Sharma said. “I think finally immunotherapy will have the resources it needs, that we can develop combination strategies and research some of the strategies that are currently not working for all tumor types.”The other centers in the partnership are Stanford, UCLA, UC San Francisco, the University of Pennsylvania and Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York.The Parker Institute aims to unify “research programs, intellectual property licensing, data collection, and clinical trials across multiple centers under the umbrella of a single non-profit biomedical research organization,” according to a press release. In conventional imaging methods, a beam of photons (or other particles) is reflected off the object to be imaged. After the beam travels to a detector, the information gathered there is used to create a photograph or other type of image. In an alternative imaging technique called “ghost imaging,” the process works a little differently: an image is reconstructed from information that is detected from a beam that never actually interacts with the object. While one beam interacts with the object, the second beam is detected and used to reconstruct the image, even though the second beam never interacts with the object. The only aspect of the first beam that is detected is the arrival time of each photon on a separate detector. But because the two beams are correlated, the image of the object can be fully reconstructed.While two beams are usually used in ghost imaging, recent research has demonstrated higher-order correlations—that is, correlations among three, four, or five beams. Higher-order ghost imaging can lead to improvements in image visibility, but it comes with the drawback that higher-order correlated events have a lower probability of detection, which causes lower resolution. In a new paper, a team of physicists from the Australian National University in Canberra has achieved two firsts in higher-order ghost imaging: the first demonstration of higher-order ghost imaging with massive particles (they use ultracold helium atoms) and the first higher-order ghost imaging that uses correlated beams from a quantum source. As their quantum source, the researchers used two colliding Bose-Einstein condensates, which are clusters of atoms cooled to near absolute zero. At such cold temperatures, the atoms in a Bose-Einstein condensate clump together and behave like a single giant atom. In their work, the researchers performed experiments using correlations among up to five helium atoms. They demonstrated that, under certain conditions, higher-order ghost imaging with massive particles from a quantum source can improve the visibility of the image without affecting the resolution. “I think the greatest significance of our work is mostly being able to show that such a challenging experiment is possible,” physicist Sean Hodgman at Australian National University, first author of the paper, told Phys.org. “There are a very small number of multi-particle correlated events in a quantum source, which is partially why it has not been demonstrated previously with optics, and this means even after many tens of thousands of experimental runs only very few events are available to reconstruct a ghost image from.”The improvements demonstrated here could be especially beneficial for applications that demand high visibility but are easily damaged. This is because the technique has the potential to reduce the dosage rates, which reduces the potential radiation damage to the sample. One such application is atomic ghost lithography.”Atomic ghost lithography would be like normal atom lithography, but using correlated beams would allow real-time monitoring of the lithographic process,” Hodgman said. “Higher-order correlations would improve ghost lithography by allowing lower fluxes with the same signal quality, which is important as high fluxes risk damage to the sample.”With further work, higher-order quantum ghost imaging could also be used to perform fundamental tests of quantum mechanics, such as demonstrating entanglement among multiple atoms or, in a related vein, making Bell’s inequality measurements using three or more particles.
