Hodgson rules out new January signings

first_imgCrystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson says Sao Paulo goalkeeper Lucas Perri will be the club’s only signing in the January transfer window.Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Sao Paulo goalkeeper Lucas Perri on loan till the end of the season and will have an option to buy him for the price of around £3m, and Hodgson has ruled out any further additions to the squad beyond that.“We have two more weeks like everybody else; the work will continue if there are more possibilities that suit us, so nothing changes in that respect,” he told Sky Sports.“But to say I’m expecting it, I’d have to have a definite name in the frame who is on the verge of signing and that’s not the case.Joel Ward, Crystal PalaceHow Joe Ward thanks his faith for his football Manuel R. Medina – September 13, 2019 Crystal Palace defender, Joel Ward, has thanked his Christian faith for helping him play football professionally and he explains why.“We’d like to add a midfielder and striker ideally… on loan deals only, not to buy.”Current Palace goalkeepers Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessy are currently injured and have been sidelined for four weeks each, and the signing of Perri will provide cover.last_img read more

Healths Mobile Tag Issue Draws 5000 Downloads in Six Days

first_imgReaders could also register to win products featured in the Beauty Awards as well as a sweepstakes to win a $1,000 Sephora gift card. Advertisers Respond, Ad Pages up 22.5 PercentThere are a total of 17 tags in the issue–13 videos and four slideshows. Of the 13 videos, seven were tied directly to winning brands in the Beauty Awards. “We don’t pick the winning brands by advertisers, it happens independent of that,” says Watt. “Seven of the videos were tied to actual winners and we did go to those brands’ agencies and ask if they wanted to be part of this.” Of those seven brands, five (Rusk, Sally Hansen, Olay, Schick and Aveeno) decided to come into the issue. Sally Hansen, Schick and Rusk were all new advertisers. Health asked for an incremental magazine ad rather than selling directly against the digital component. Ad pages in the May 2011 issue are up 22.5 percent over May 2010. The magazine is planning to repeat the program in October for its Food Awards. Health magazine’s May issue features Microsoft Tag technology as part of an effort to drive readers to bonus content online. The program requires readers to download the free Microsoft Tag app, which allows the reader to scan the issue via smartphone to see bonus video and slideshows related to the issue. The feature went live on April 19 and in the last six days the magazine has generated 5,000 downloads with many subscriber issues yet to be delivered, according to publisher Dave Watt. The Microsoft Tag program is packaged with the Health Beauty Awards, which recognize best buys among beauty products. “Microsoft presented this to us and we thought it was a really cool thing but we had to have the right idea,” says Watt. “We thought, what if we use the tags to bring the awards to life? We’d have judges appear in video to talk about the products, why they picked them and offer tips to readers such as the best way to apply eye shadow. We didn’t want editors just saying, ‘I picked Olay because of x.’ That’s not adding value, that’s just parroting what was in the magazine.”While Microsoft Tags are free to create, Health hired an outside company to shoot the videos and a mobile vendor to create connections with the tags and mobile phones. “You have to have those videos mobile-enabled to be properly viewable on smartphones,” says Health director of integrated marketing Zovig Garboushian. The video features bonus content beyond the beauty awards, including a behind-the-scenes look at the cover shoot with singer Miranda Lambert, yoga moves and spring style tips. “When Microsoft met with us, they said, ‘To make this work, you’ve got to have it integrated throughout the magazine, not just in one little section,’” says Watt. last_img read more

Toyota FCV Hydrogen Car Set to Become Reality Will FuelCell Car Gain

first_imgToyota Motor Corp’s Executive Vice President Mitsuhisa Kato speaks in front of the company’s fuel cell vehicle (FCV) concept car at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show in Tokyo November 20, 2013. Toyota and Honda are taking the lead in this largely untested market.Toyota’s FCV Concept is inching closer to reality and the car which has been the talk of the town is all set to dazzle at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on 6 January. The latest FCV which made its first appearance at the recently concluded 2013 Tokyo Motor Show is expected to go into production in 2015.The FCV; a hydrogen fuel-cell passenger vehicle from the renowned auto maker Toyota, will draw power from its fuel-cell stack and two 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tanks beneath the specially-crafted body. It will run on the compressed hydrogen power, which is a clear alternative to the usual gasoline-powered and plug-in cars, but the success of the hydrogen fuel-cell concept is still debated. In a world where the fossil fuel is running out, fuel-cell cars seem to be the only way. Toyota Motor Corp’s FCV concept car is seen at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show in Tokyo November 20, 2013. Toyota wants this on the road by 2015.(Reuters)Although Hydrogen vehicles have been in news for a while now and many companies have been considering the idea, the concept has been tantalizing because of the many hurdles. Now companies like Toyota, Hyundai and Honda could clear the stumbling blocks and introduce the all-new hydrogen cars into the auto world. When Toyota FCV becomes a reality, the car will rival the Honda FCEV concept, which is also expected to mark its entry in 2015. But road to success is not straight and problems like supply of hydrogen still need to be addressed more seriously. Drew Angerer/Getty ImagesActing US Defence Secretary Patrick Shanahan warned any nations that might be considering anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons tests like the one India carried out on Wednesday to “not make a mess” in space, noting the debris that can be left behind.”My message would be: we all live in space, let’s not make it a mess. Space should be a place where we can conduct business. Space is a place where people should have the freedom to operate,” Shanahan told a small group of reporters on Wednesday, without saying whether he believed India’s test left debris. He said the United States was still studying the Indian test.”You cannot make (space) unstable. We cannot create the debris problem that ASAT tests create. So, thoughtfulness goes a long way.”India’s foreign ministry played down any risk of debris, noting the test was in low-Earth orbit and said the remnants would “decay and fall back on to the Earth within weeks.”India would only be the fourth country to have used such an anti-satellite weapon after the United States, Russia and China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. The United States ran the first anti-satellite test in 1959 when satellites themselves were rare and new.Shanahan noted that, given the increasing global reliance on space, it was important to create rules of the road for space.”I think not having rules of engagement is worrisome. So, how people test and develop technologies are important,” he said, adding: “I would expect anyone who tests does not put at risk anyone else’s assets.”center_img Narendra Modi: It is not Modi’s Strength, It is the strength of your vote, that the world is witnessing todaylast_img read more

Clinton Foundation hacker to plead guilty

first_imgTimothy SedlakA Florida man accused of trying to hack the Clinton Foundation in 2015 is expected to plead guilty on Thursday, months after he was sentenced in a related case to 42 years in prison over child pornography discovered on his computers during the probe.Timothy Sedlak, 43, is scheduled to plead guilty in federal court in Manhattan, according to court records. Prosecutors accused him in September 2015 of trying to gain access to an unnamed New York-based global charitable organisation’s network.Prosecutors have never named the organization. But a court filing obtained by Reuters said US Secret Service agents in 2015 questioned Sedlak about notes they found referencing former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea Clinton.Sedlak, who called himself a private investigator, told the agents he was researching whether charities were unintentionally providing funding to Islamic militant groups, and said the Clintons “came up in his research,” the filing said. The filing’s description of the Clintons matched prosecutors’ descriptions of two previously unnamed individuals who were said to be an “executive” at the charity and an “individual who has been publicly affiliated” with it.Chelsea Clinton is the vice chair of Clinton Foundation, which was founded by her father, former US president Bill Clinton. Its full name is the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation. The filing, a summary of a Secret Service agent’s interview with Sedlak, was downloaded by Reuters on Feb. 3 and soon after was replaced by a redacted version removing the Clintons’ names.A spokeswoman for Manhattan US attorney Preet Bharara and Sedlak’s lawyer declined comment. Clinton Foundation representatives did not respond to requests for comment. The investigation into Sedlak, of Ocoee, Florida, predated probes into cyber attacks on Democrats during the 2016 presidential election.US intelligence agencies in January released an assessment that Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered a covert effort through the cyber attacks to help Republican Donald Trump’s electoral chances by discrediting Clinton.Prosecutors have said that Sedlak launched about 390,000 unsuccessful attempts to gain unauthorized access to the charitable organisation’s computer network.Following his arrest, authorities discovered files on his computers containing child pornography, including a number of images depicting Sedlak himself sexually abusing a toddler, prosecutors said.Sedlak as a result was separately charged in Florida, where a federal jury in Orlando in May found him guilty on charges including that he produced and possessed child pornography. He was sentenced in August to 42 years in prison.last_img read more
